This camp was organized by Dhwani Legal Trust in collaboration with Booshakthi Kendra, a locally based Trust that works with the marginalised communities especially the SC/ST, OBC, women and children in and around certain villages of Tumkur district. Booshakthi Kendra Trust and Dhwani Legal Trust brought together nearly 200 participants from 25 villages in Tumkur district.
The camp began with welcome and context setting by the Preetam Casimir, Managing Trustee, and Jyothiraj, Trustee of Booshakthi Kendra followed by Adv Ashwini Obulesh, Founder-Director of Dhwani Legal Trust introducing Dhwani and the purpose of the camp to the participants. This was followed by an engaging legal awareness skit and public interactions by students from the Legal Services Clinic of NLSIU on topics such as the POCSO Act, Domestic Violence, and FIR procedures.
The legal aid and advice started at 12.30 pm and went on till 2.30pm. This session saw Dhwani's lawyers, assisted by interns and students, providing one-on-one consultations on issues relating to PTCL, Bagair Hukum lands, Inam lands, property disputes, and other legal concerns. A total of 51 cases were dealt with by our team. There were cases which needed just a follow-up and certain which needed help in filing, few will have to be taken up at the High Court.
It was an insightful event both for the organisers and the participants. Dhwani extends its gratitude to Booshakthi Kendra and all the volunteers who worked behind the scene for the camp.
