The journey of a female lawyer is undoubtedly a bumpy ride, strewn with hurdles, juggling between family and career… despite all this , they standout and make their presence felt.
The data of the number of female lawyers in comparison to the male counterparts, is baffling to say the least, given the population of our country, however it is possible to break this barrier if we have the grit and the determination to do it. My experience (fortunately) at the Law Chamber is a memorable one. I was fortunate to be a part of the Law Chamber, where I had fourteen male colleagues and just one female colleague. The environment was absolutely without any gender bias; there was equality, the thrust was on learning, empowering and helping fellow colleagues to excel. Life in the Law Chamber entailed gaining knowledge and handling complicated cases. My journey at the Law Chamber also made me realise that life sometimes gives you lemonade and not lemons.

This positive experience at the Law Chamber made me realise that a conducive environment in a male bastion and a patriarchal society matters and certainly makes a difference to female professionals who strive to make their voices heard.
Also, the key points are to stay focused, stay strong and penetrate the glass ceiling. What we do today will be a benchmark for the upcoming female lawyers for tomorrow. Let’s start today, let there be inclusivity, let us break the barriers and create a better world for the upcoming female lawyers . I would like to conclude with a quote by Maya Angelou –
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women“
