09.10.2026 : Session on Domestice Violence Act at Samatha Nagar, Koramangala organised by Maarga.
Dhwani Legal Trust conducted a legal awareness session on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, for women members of Maarga, an organisation working with vulnerable and economically disadvantaged communities and assisting people in accessing their entitlements.
Adv. Archana, Legal Awareness Coordinator, Dhwani Legal Trust, was invited to conduct the session. The programme aimed to familiarise the participants with the legal protections available to women experiencing domestic violence and to create awareness about their rights and available support mechanisms.
The session was highly interactive, with 15 women participating. The participants actively shared their concerns, personal experiences, and challenges, making the discussion meaningful and engaging. It became evident during the interaction that many women had limited awareness of the laws designed to protect them from domestic violence and the remedies available to them.
Adv. Archana explained the importance of recognising domestic violence, understanding legal rights, and knowing where to seek assistance when faced with abuse. The discussion provided a safe space for participants to voice their concerns and gain a better understanding of legal protection.
The session highlighted the urgent need for continued legal awareness initiatives among economically disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, where limited access to legal information can prevent women from seeking timely help.
Dhwani Legal Trust takes pride in engaging with such communities and working towards making legal knowledge accessible to those who need it most. Such initiatives reaffirm the importance of grassroots legal awareness in empowering women, strengthening their confidence, and enabling them to exercise their rights with dignity.
