18th September 2026: Dhwani Conducted an Awareness session on Child Marriage for Waste Pickers Community at Marathahalli, Organised by Hasiru Dala
An awareness session on child marriage was conducted in Hindi by Adv. Misbah Shan, Associate, Dhwani, at Vagdevi, Marathahalli, in collaboration with Hasiru Dala an organisation workiing with the waste pickers community in different parts of Karnataka
The session was organized for waste pickers community with approximately 25 men and women participating.
The session aimed to create awareness about the legal, social, educational, and health-related consequences of child marriage. Adv. Misbah explained the legal provisions relating to the prevention of child marriage in a simple and accessible manner, enabling participants to understand the importance of preventing marriages involving children and protecting their rights.
The discussion also focused on the importance of education, safety, dignity, and overall development of children. Participants were encouraged to speak openly about challenges faced by families and communities and to seek appropriate support when they encounter situations involving child marriage.
Conducting the session in Hindi helped ensure effective communication and enabled the participants to engage comfortably with the subject. The interactive approach encouraged questions and discussions among the attendees.
The programme served as an important platform for reaching a vulnerable and economically disadvantaged community and strengthening awareness about child protection, legal rights, and the collective responsibility to prevent child marriage.
