22nd September 2026: Awareness Session on Child Marriage for Waste Pickers Community at Rayasandra, Electronic City.
An awareness session on child marriage was conducted in Hindi by Adv. Shraddha Sunil, Associate, Dhwani, at Rayasandra, Electronic City in collaboration with Hasiru Dala.
The session was organized for waste pickers community with approximately 15 women and men participating.
The session aimed to create awareness about the legal, social, educational, and health-related consequences of child marriage. Adv. Shraddha explained the legal provisions relating to the prevention of child marriage in a simple and accessible manner, enabling participants to understand the importance of preventing marriages involving children and protecting their rights.
Students from Legal Services Clinic of Christ School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University) participated in the programme by performing a skit on the topic.
Conducting the session in Hindi helped ensure effective communication and enabled the participants to engage comfortably with the subject. The interactive approach encouraged questions and discussions among the attendees.
The programme served as an important platform for reaching a vulnerable and economically disadvantaged community and strengthening awareness about child protection, legal rights, and the collective responsibility to prevent child marriage.
