An interactive session on Constitutional Values was conducted at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bengaluru, on 11th August 2026, with around 350 students participating.
The session focused on “The Making of the Constitution of India” and explored the historical and political journey that led to the adoption of the Constitution.
Adv Archana and Adv Pooja from Dhwani Legal Trust conducted this session.
To set the context and encourage students to reflect on why a Constitution is necessary, the session began with an activity called “Power Walk.” Through this experiential activity, students were placed in different situations and positions, encouraging them to think about power, privilege, inequality, rights and access to opportunities.
The activity helped students understand, through their own experiences, the need for a framework that guarantees rights, limits the misuse of power and establishes principles of equality and justice.
The discussion then covered the evolution of the Constitution, the nationalist movement, the composition of the Constituent Assembly, its important committees, and the process of enactment of the Constitution.
The significant contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in shaping the constitutional framework were also discussed.
A major focus was the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and its values that are Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic and Republic, along with Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
The session remained interactive, with students seeking clarifications ad discussions evolved.
