Updated: 20 hours ago

As part of Pride Month celebrations, Dhwani organized an engaging online event featuring a reading of the landmark Naz Foundation judgment by Prannv Dhawan. The event brought together around 28 participants, creating a thoughtful and interactive space for learning and dialogue.

The session began with a reading of key excerpts from the Naz Foundation judgment, which played a pivotal role in advancing LGBTQIA+ rights in India. The discussion highlighted the judgment's significance in challenging discrimination and affirming the constitutional values of equality, dignity, and personal liberty.

Following the reading, Prannv Dhawan reflected on the progress made since the judgment while addressing the challenges that continue to confront queer communities today. The talk emphasized the need for sustained advocacy, inclusive policies, and greater social acceptance to ensure meaningful equality in contemporary society.

Participants actively engaged throughout the session by asking thoughtful questions and sharing their perspectives. The interactive discussion enriched the conversation, encouraging critical reflection on the legal, social, and cultural dimensions of LGBTQIA+ rights.

Speaker: Prannv Dhawan is an Indian attorney from NLSIU with expertise in constitutional and tax law, he is currently pursuing an LL.M. at Yale Law School. At Yale, he worked with UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, Prof Graeme Reid through the Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic. Having worked across human rights, policy research, judicial clerkships, and litigation, he brought in a lot of depth to this important conversation.

The event successfully commemorated Pride Month by fostering awareness, dialogue, and a shared commitment to advancing inclusion and equality for all.
