29th May 2026: Session on POSH for the faculty of Vidyashilp University, Bengaluru

Adv. Ashwini Obulesh, Executive Director of Dhwani Legal Trust, facilitated an engaging and interactive awareness session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) Act for the staff members of Vidyashilp University. The session was attended by the Deputy Registrar of Vidyashilp University, Ms. Roopa Madhav, the Dean of the Law School, faculty members, administrative personnel, and other staff members.

The programme focused on creating a deeper understanding of the legal framework governing the POSH Act and the responsibilities of educational institutions in ensuring a safe and inclusive workplace. Participants actively engaged in discussions and raised pertinent questions regarding the implementation of the Act, practical challenges faced by employers, and the rights and protections available to employees.

The session covered key aspects of the law, including the statutory obligations of employers, the constitution and functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), timelines and procedures for inquiry, confidentiality requirements, and the consequences of non-compliance. Particular emphasis was placed on addressing the nuanced and often complex issues that arise in workplace harassment cases, including the gray areas of consent, professional boundaries, workplace interactions, and the importance of adopting a survivor-centric approach while ensuring procedural fairness.

The discussion also highlighted best practices for prevention, awareness-building, and institutional accountability, and the need to develop a stronger understanding of their roles in fostering a respectful and harassment-free work environment.
