9th February, 2026 : Adv Ashwini and Srikara Visited to Booshakthi Kendra and witnessed the 'Adijan Darshana' at Tumkur.

Updated: May 20

Adv Ashwini Obulesh Founder-Director and Srikara Dattatreya, Operations Manager of Dhwani Legal Trust visited Booshakthi Kendra, a trust in Tumkur that works primarily for the empowerment and rights of marginalized and landless communities focusing on addressing social, economic, and legal issues faced by Dalits and other landless villagers through collective action and community participation.

As part of the visit, Dhwani could witness a monthly community meeting called “Adijan Darshan”, which is held on every second Monday of the month. These meetings are attended by people from neighbouring villages. The main purpose is to identify problems faced by villagers, discuss land-related and social issues, find collective solutions and provide guidance and support. Initially, these meetings were meant only for Dalits, especially landless Dalits. Over time, the scope was expanded, and now all landless villagers are encouraged to participate. This has helped in building unity among different marginalized groups. In many ways, Adijan Darshan functions like legal aid without lawyers, where people receive help, advice, and support through community discussions rather than formal legal systems.

Around 100 people participated in the meeting, and it was noted that these gatherings often see even higher turnouts, reflecting the trust and involvement of the community.

For Dhwani this was the first step with Booshakthi Kendra towards a meaningful collaboration to provide a formal legal support by organising Free Legal Aid Camps for the people from the grassroots.
