16th January, 2026 : Awareness Session on POSH at Jyothi Nivas College, Bangalore

Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous, Bengaluru, through its Jyoti Mahila Samithi (Women’s Cell), successfully organized an awareness session on “Sexual Harassment of Women in the Workplace: Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013 (POSH Act)” on Friday, 16 January 2026, at 10:40 a.m. in the Jyoti Auditorium. The session was conducted for the staff and students of the college.


The programme commenced with an introduction by Advocate Ashwini Obulesh, High Court of Karnataka and Founder-Executive Director of Dhwani Legal Trust. She outlined the objectives of the POSH Act, explained its scope and applicability, and sensitized the participants to the importance of creating safe and respectful workplaces. She also discussed key definitions under the Act, including sexual harassment and the responsibilities of institutions.


Advocate Shraddha Sunil, Associate, Dhwani Legal Trust then elaborated on the legal mechanisms under the POSH Act, focusing on the constitution and functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), complaint procedures, inquiry process, and remedies available to aggrieved women. She highlighted the rights and duties of complainants, respondents, and employers under the law.


The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and raising several questions related to real-life scenarios and legal procedures. The discussion helped clarify doubts and enhanced awareness about legal protections against workplace sexual harassment.


The programme concluded with appreciation for the speakers for their insightful and engaging presentation, which significantly contributed to legal awareness and gender sensitization among the participants.
