16th August, 2025 : 'In the Name of Love' A Public Discussion.

The event “In the Name of Love”, organized by The Philosophy Project at Atta Galatta, was an engaging evening of reflection and dialogue that explored love in its many dimensions. Designed as a space for collective thought and exchange, the programme brought together speakers and participants to critically examine love not simply as romance, but as memory, resistance, philosophy, and the fragile thread that sustains everyday life.

The discussions traversed diverse terrains. Speakers reflected on love as an act of remembering—our attachments to people, objects, and places that continue to shape us long after moments have passed. The conversation also highlighted love as an act of rebellion, particularly in the context of inter-caste and inter-religious relationships, where the choice to love often demands extraordinary courage in the face of entrenched social hierarchies. Philosophical engagements drew from classical and contemporary traditions, including Plato’s Symposium, situating love within a long-standing discourse that questions desire, companionship, and the meaning of intimacy. Additionally, the politics of care was foregrounded, emphasizing how love functions as a practice of responsibility and solidarity in the everyday.

What emerged from these reflections was a recognition of love as multidimensional—tender and sustaining, yet also radical and resistant. It became clear that love cannot be confined to private or sentimental domains but must be understood as a force that builds communities, challenges social structures, and enables the imagination of alternative futures.

Dhwani Legal Trust was among the contributing voices, with its representatives drawing connections between love, law, and justice, and highlighting how acts of care and solidarity intersect with struggles for equality and rights. The event also featured contributions from @anarrain2018, @ashwini2305, and @reclaimconstitution, each of whom brought unique perspectives that enriched the conversation. The session was moderated by @lakshmi._.tn, who ensured the discussion remained thoughtful, inclusive, and expansive.

The evening served not only as a forum for sharing ideas but also as a collective reminder that love, in all its complexity, is inseparable from the social and political contexts in which it is lived. By the conclusion of the event, participants were left with a renewed appreciation of love as a transformative force—at once personal, political, and profoundly human.
