26th September, 2025 : Samvidhaan Series Screening- Episode 3: Independent India: Righting Fundamental Wrongs with Fundamental Rights

The third episode of Samvidhaan Series: Righting Fundamental Wrongs with Fundamental Rights - was screened in Dhwani Legal Trust. Samvidhaan Series is the acclaimed ten-part docudrama directed by Shyam Benegal and produced by Rajya Sabha Television.

This episode highlighted deliberations on rights such as equality, freedom of movement, expression and legal protections to correct the wrongs and protect the civil liberties of citizens in the new republic. It also embarked on how the Constituent Assembly of India, soon after Independence, framed fundamental rights as tools to address deep rooted injustice and inequalities in practice.

After the screening, Advocate Maitreyi Krishnan facilitated a thoughtful conversation on the essence and relevance of fundamental rights today focusing on Equality and Fraternity as missing elements from the society. She also emphasised on how the systems are working hard to keep these inequalities up and running and as a result marginalised sections are still undergoing oppression.

It was an evening of reflection, debate, and dialogue that deepened our understanding on how these rights continue to shape democratic life and individual's freedom in today's India.
