Updated: May 20

Adv. Archana Casmir, Legal Awareness Coordinator, Dhwani Legal Trust was invited by Arivina Payana, Jalavadhi Mahila Sangha, and Balasangha to interact with around 25 to 30 children of Tyagarajanagar, Bengaluru at a summer camp, creating a safe and engaging space for interactions. The session focused on building awareness around basic child rights and the importance of protection, with a special emphasis on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Using simple, child-friendly language, she introduced key concepts such as the difference between safe and unsafe touch, personal boundaries, and the importance of trusting one’s feelings. The session went beyond conventional teaching methods, incorporating role plays, quizzes, and interactive discussions that encouraged active participation. These activities helped children better understand sensitive topics in a relatable and non-threatening manner.

A significant aspect of the session was addressing the hesitation and fear that often prevent children from speaking about uncomfortable experiences. Through continuous engagement and reassurance, the children gradually shed their inhibitions, becoming more open to asking questions and sharing their thoughts. They were encouraged to identify trusted adults, understand the importance of reporting unsafe situations, and support one another.

The session not only enhanced awareness but also empowered the children with confidence and clarity, reinforcing that their voices matter and that they have the right to feel safe, respected, and heard.
