Adv. Misbah Shan, Associate from Dhwani Legal Trust was invited as a resource person for a session on new labour codes organised by Ajivika at Visthar, Bengaluru. The initiative aimed to empower individuals by spreading awareness regarding their rights under the new labour codes and addressing critical workplace-related issues.
Misbah explained the essential protections available to workers under the new Labour Codes particularly the Code on Wages. She highlighted how these reforms consolidate and simplify existing labour laws, ensuring that every worker is entitled to fair wages, proper modes of payment, and timely disbursement of wages. The participants were encouraged to understand their rights and seek appropriate legal remedies in case of violations.
An additional focus of the session was an interactive discussion on various practical questions under the Code on Wages. Participants raised queries regarding wage calculations, payment timelines, deductions, and grievance mechanisms, all of which were addressed in detail to ensure clarity and better understanding of the law.
Another important aspect discussed was the significance of awareness regarding workplace rights and the role of legal mechanisms in safeguarding employees from exploitation. The session emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency in wage payments and ensuring accountability of employers under the new legal framework.
The programme was highly interactive, many participants actively engaged by sharing their concerns and asking insightful questions related to their work conditions and wage-related issues.
Overall, the initiative was a meaningful step toward empowering individuals through legal literacy on labour rights. Such programmes play a crucial role in bridging the gap between workers and the law, ensuring that people, especially from economically weaker sections, are aware of their entitlements and protections under the evolving labour law.
